Faculty Brown Bag Series - Flexible Learning Arrangements: Learning Communities that Transcend Time and Space

Instructor:

Our brown bag lunch series is an opportunity for you to hear about the exciting work that’s being done by faculty at Simmons and other Boston-area colleges. During these informal sessions you will also have to share ideas and explore possibilities for the courses that you teach. Lunches take place in P113 from 12:30-1:30 (please bring your own lunch).

Flexible Learning Arrangements: Learning Communities that Transcend Time and Space

SOM faculty member Mary Shapiro's research focuses on women and the use of "flexible work arrangements" (FWA) in the workplace. She wondered if some of the effective practices associated with FWA would be helpful in meeting the needs of her study abroad and evening students -- situations in which traveling to campus is either challenging or even downright impossible. Her redesigned courses now combine on campus work, offsite work, and online work. Come hear Mary discuss her experiences and explore opportunities that this approach holds for similar learning scenarios, including: study abroad, field placement, intensives, and satellite programs.
